Are square skylight diffusers interchangeable between brands?
Not always. Square skylight diffusers are sized to suit specific ceiling inserts and fixing methods. Even when two diffusers share the same edge-to-edge dimensions, differences in lip depth or fixing style can prevent a direct swap between brands or older and newer skylight systems.
Can I change the diffuser finish without changing the insert?
In many cases, yes. If the diffuser uses the same size and fixing method, you can change finishes (for example, from opal to prismatic) without replacing the ceiling insert. Compatibility still depends on the insert profile and how the diffuser locates into place.
Do square diffusers affect the amount of light entering the room?
The diffuser finish affects how light is spread into the room rather than the amount of daylight entering the skylight. Prismatic finishes scatter light more broadly, while opal finishes soften glare and create a more even light distribution.
