Note: The skylight dome is normally 150mm larger then the skylight shaft and or diffuser opening at the ceiling level. For example: A 500mm x 500mm opening at ceiling level will normally have a 650mm x 650mm sized dome at roof level.
Measuring for a Replacement Skylight Dome
The correct replacement skylight dome size is determined by the throat measurement of the skylight base — this is the roof opening that must be fully covered by the new dome.
Follow the steps below:
1. Remove the Existing Dome

Detach the dome from the flashing or base.

Domes are typically secured with screws or pop rivets.
2. Measure the Dome (Edge to Edge)

Round domes: Measure across the widest point, from edge to edge.

Square or rectangular domes: Measure straight across from one edge to the other.

This measurement gives you the dome’s overall size (for example, 420mm).
3. Measure the Skylight Throat (Roof Opening)

Measure across the roof opening, also known as the throat or nominal size (for example, 400mm).

This measurement determines the skylight model, shaft size, ceiling insert size, and diffuser size.

It is especially important if you are replacing multiple components or cannot confirm the dome’s edge-to-edge measurement.

Measuring and Selecting a Replacement Skylight Diffuser

Identify the diffuser type
Determine whether your existing diffuser is a flat model, domed model, or vented model. -
Measure the diffuser size

Measure across the diameter of the diffuser to confirm the required size.

If the diffuser is cracked or damaged, you can alternatively measure the ceiling insert opening to estimate the correct size.

Check the diffuser material
Consider the material and finish of your current diffuser. Is it frosted acrylic or a prismatic style? Matching the material helps maintain consistent appearance and light diffusion. -
Confirm the fixing method
Determine how the diffuser attaches to the ceiling insert:-
Does it twist and lock into place?

Or does it simply sit on the inner lip of the insert?

When an exact replacement is unavailable
Some skylight companies may no longer be trading, or certain diffuser styles may have been discontinued. In these cases, a compatible diffuser may be suitable, or it may be necessary to upgrade both the ceiling insert and diffuser to a current model.

Special-order domes, larger custom dome orders, and Skylight kits are not eligible for a refund.

In limited circumstances, a store credit may be considered.

Orders that exceed 5 kg, have a large volumetric size, or are destined for remote/rural locations may incur additional freight charges in addition to the flat rate.

Before dispatch, we will email you freight quotes, total cost, and payment terms. Any additional freight charges must be paid prior to dispatch.

Non-cancellable once commenced: Special-order domes, custom domes, custom diffusers, and Skylight kits cannot be cancelled once work has begun.

Costs on mid-process cancellations: If a non-standard stocked item is cancelled at any stage (ordering, manufacturing, packaging, or delivery), the customer must reimburse Skybrite Skylights for all costs incurred up to the time of cancellation (e.g., materials, labour, administration, freight, and third-party charges).

The total order price is shown at checkout, inclusive of item price, GST, shipping, and any unavoidable or pre-selected fees.

It is the purchaser’s responsibility to ensure all billing and delivery details are accurate before completing the order.
